Day's Narrative: This was a cold day. It was 46F (8C) as I left El Reno about 7:45 a.m. By 10:00 a.m. it had warmed up to 47F. The wind started out strong and slowly dropped all day. All morning I kept going by thinking of the hot shower I could have later this afternoon. It never really warmed up enough for me to take off the arm and leg warmers. The photos above document the day fairly well. The route today took me through Norman, OK, home of the University of Oklahoma. That's where I discovered I had to ride on Interstate 35 for a mile or so in order to get across the Canadian River to connect up with the rest of SR 9. Late in the afternoon I met Darlene Dodson in Spring Hill. We had an interesting conversation about the weather and bicycling. Most of the day was spent riding on the shoulder of SR 9. The country is starting to get hilly here and I suppose it will get more so tomorrow. There are two bicycling days left in the ride, both are around 90-100 mile rides. At dinner tonight Connie and I discussed laying over a day in Eufaula. If we do that then the ride will be over on Thursday evening, and we will spend Friday evening in Tulsa visiting with Connie's cousins. From there it's a two day drive back to Los Alamos. All this assumes nothing goes wrong. This is not a very good assumption when bicycling. © Ray & Connie Poore, 2000
