Day's Narrative: Today we have been visiting family and friends and revisiting the town. See photos above.

We got an email message from Lydia Maister, "dear ray good luck, steve's on his way - lydia." Steve Maister is on the plane from Johannesburg. Jim, Connie and I will drive to Cincinnati to pick him up tomorrow afternoon.

[Connie] We had a special evening with cousins JoAnn and Susanne eating fresh caught catfish, fresh corn and slabs of real tomatoes, the kind that only come from good gardens. I've only had these incredible fruits in Kentucky. We ate and celebrated JoAnn's 67th birthday. After a wonderful meal, we adjourned to the warmth of the fire pit on a cool night beneath a clear country sky full of stars, the first we've seen since leaving New Mexico.

The day and night were so special and perfect that it seemed to be a day which almost makes up for the horrendous pain and chore of dealing with the river's rise and camp flood-out which JoAnn and husband Howard recently experienced. In this flood, their cabin was moved over into a tree which served and serves as a hopefully firm anchor against further invasions by the river.

To paraphrase Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz -- There's no place like home and no people like our home people. Even though I am the newcomer to this home and family, they have always welcomed me with open arms and love. One can have more than one home place and people and these are my second ones.
