Day's Narrative: Steve and I had a very pleasant breakfast at Country Fixin's with Howard and JoAnn Spratt at 6:30, and then left for Russell Springs. We were warned by the weather forecast that we could expect rain early in the afternoon, but it never happened. We stopped at a small country store in the village of Donansburg (photo 1) and had a nice, long conversation with the owners who had moved to the area from Pennsylvania. The roads were what I would call "rolling" up until we got to Greensburg. After that I would classify them as "hilly." This was caused by the terrain containing streams in deep valleys. In fact one of the hills near Russell Springs was a real killer. We have been on state roads with no paved shoulders and sometimes heavy, but slow traffic. The vehicles have been giving us a wide berth. Tonight we ate at Coe's Steak House here in Russell Springs, whose speciality is fried catfish. Hmmmm, that's interesting -- a steak house whose speciality is catfish. See photo 2. The catfish was really good. [Connie] I got a late start since it took longer than usual to pack up. After our extended stay in Munfordville, things got spread out and storage items snuck out into the daily things. I caught up with Ray and Steve in Columbia--no bananas today-- and went on to Russell Springs where I serendipitously found this motel after not being able to find the agreed upon meeting motel -- the Shiloh. I did find the latter after I drove back to find the guys and tell them where I was and "bewildered " myself on the return to this motel. I found the Shiloh Motel right behind the Dairy Queen, but this place is newer, more modern --read probably a better chance of modem connections for the computer. It also has my most appreciated amenity, a small fridge, where the next day's water jug can be frozen, and cans of soda can be cooled. It's hot and muggy today, the expected rain is in the air, but not yet on the ground. I think I need a special horn for the truck that plays "On the Road Again" when I push the button. © Ray & Connie Poore, 1997
