Selsun Blue Long-Distance Voodoo Tour '97!

Live Bob | Tuba Man | Rotting Flesh | Pig Boy

An amazing journey into the heart of American music!

(We drove a '68 Ford Galaxy 500 with a U-Haul car top carrier. The car is badly dented with lots of rust. We had a "Selsun Blue" magnet on the back trunk. There were the four of us and Mark's son Mark, who we called Mark Twain, or later, "Friend-Boy Twain." No air-conditioning. People gave us some looks!)

Here are the major highlights (click on links to see pictures):

-Met in Memphis on the 17th of June. Played on Beale Street, and many folks stopped to watch. Old folks, locals, young punks, tourists... it was amazing. We made $27! Later, we had a feast of Catfish and Coleslaw south of Memphis with the $27.

-Helena Arkansas is a great little town, and Bubba's Record shop is the best blues record shop I have seen in a while! Here is a photo of us outside of Helena.

-Clarksdale Blues Museum a true jem. This photo is of Greg and Friend-Boy outside the old museum. A young couple told us that they had seen us the day before in Memphis! They even liked us!! Here we are in Clarksdale. We had a great breakfast at the Pink Barrel, with the friendliest staff and best bread pudding in the Deep South.

-Here we are at Robert Johnson's grave. We had lunch down there, and dipped all of our instruments in Holy Delta Water. It rained right before we got there, and stopped just as we arrived. A snake was dead in the road. We were listening to "Love in Vain." We interpreted all of these as "good omens."

-During the trip, Friend-Boy was our Videographer. This picture is of him and Darrell in the backseat of the Galaxy 500. Here is another photo of "Friend-Boy" in New Orleans.

-Tabby's is still the coolest, and we got an autographed picture of him!

-New Orleans was hot, hot, hot! Ate at the Napoleon House, drank everywhere, played on Jackson Square... had some amp trouble but the Tuba sounded good!

We had a great time in New Orleans; the heat was bad, but the food was hot, and the beer was cold. Here we are walking in the French Quarter.

-The only bad part about the Long Distance Voodoo Tour was leaving.

-Stay tuned! More photos to come, as soon as we can find them. We made a videotape cassette of the adventure, and are awaiting final editing. Sometime over christmas there may be a "showing" of the movie in Albuquerque. We will keep you posted.

-We would like to thank the following people for helping us go on this trip:

Lynne Sampson, the "Voodoo Queen" of the blues trip, Richard Berthold, Erin Sanders, Lily Hansen, Peggy Hessing, Heather, Pawn Drive , Mark Weber, James Tuttle, The Fat Chance (and MAX!), Gen, The Handsome Family, the Drags, The Gaul Chicks (You know who you are), Friend-Boy's brothers, , Gilda de la Garza, The Citizens and Creatures of Grants NM., Dave "El Jaguar" Remy, Terry "El Ter-Ber" Williams, Robert Yother, the entire populace of the Mississippi Delta...

Many heartfelt thanks to Muddy Waters and Robert Pete Williams.

...and Robert Johnson, for whom all of this originates.

Rest in Peace.
