July 13th
Drove from Boise Idaho to Eugene Oregon. We had breakfast at the Capri restaurant in Boise... another restaurant where we were the only people there under 60...except for the two cops having morning coffee. Great food.
We drove on route 26 through lush green fields and dry mountains. We could smell the garlic and clover fields as we drove past, the air was cool and clear. The roads were deserted, sometimes we got up to 90 mph on the desolate sections [wheeeee!]. Great drive! At one point we pulled over at a river and soaked our feet in the cool healing waters. We stopped in Prineville and had a delicious lunch at a Barr's restarant, a local coffeeshop. We took a cut-through over McKenzie pass, where a huge lava field covers the pass between Mt. Washington and the Three Sisters. Strange and awesome. The road down from the mountain was mucho curvey, made us feel kind of sick. We noticed that the vegetation is lusher on this side of the mountain, looks more northwestern. The Willamette valley is really beautiful, and has a town named "Nimrod." We made it to Eugene by 8:30 and met Lynne's sister Laura.
We will write more later, when we have some time!
