San Diego! Actually, Coronado Island where Van and Ruth live in a great little apartment. As promised, we are chilling in a big way. We aren't doing much of anything... and really haven't taken many pictures. We will try to do SOMETHING while we are here, so we can post pictures. Keep checking back and we will post more as we take them. Surf's up! Gotta go...

The clouds never burned off yesterday, so we just milled around the house, went shopping and listened to music. Van cooked us an awesome dinner of grilled pork chops, new potatos and carrots. We ate like kings (and queens).

After sitting around his house doing nothing for two days, Clyde issued us a challenge: when he comes home from work today, perhaps we will have left the house! It was still cloudy this morning so we decided not to hit the beach just yet. Instead we headed out for some exercise. We rode Clyde's 1950s tandem bicycle and Ruth rollerbladed. We went all around the island and it was beautiful. The chain came off the bike at one time and two different old Coronado men came out of their houses to see if they could help us fix it. They were dying to tinker so we let them help some. It was pretty simple actually so we were on our way soon.

The sun finally cleared, so the three of us went down to the beach and got sunburned. It was a bit overcast and breezy so we didn't really notice how fried we were getting. We were there for a couple of hours, then came back and took naps. At least we had something to report when Clyde got home....

Tonight we We went down to the Gas Lamp district and had some pretty good New Orleans food at a place called Bayou Bar & Grill, then went to the Hang Ten Brewery to meet Kathleen. She has been in San Diego all week organizing a big concert on the Navy Pier for the San Diego Symphony. She had to work tonight but was able to hook up with us after the concert. It was great to see her and we plan to hook up again tomorrow. We are actually thinking of our good friend Greg Pirkl who was here in San Diego last time we made this trip (4 years ago). Wish he were here now. He may not, however, since he is in Hawaii!

Kathleen is coming over to Coronado and we are going to hang out at the beach again. Hopefully we won't get as burned as we did yesterday!

We plan to leave tonight sometime to get through the desert when it is cool. We will be in Phoenix tomorrow visting Lynne's sister Charlotte and her husband Greg. The next day we will head to Chaco Canyon (we think) and then to Albuquerque by Wednesday or Thursday.
