July 6th
We are in Gulfport visiting my Grandfather. It is really hot down here... and humid. Lynne and I did some chores around the house for Grandad and Jean; fixed the refridgerator, cleaned some, took some donations to the church. Lynne and I went to the beach for a hot little stroll, see below. Tomorrow we are going to try and get to Oklahoma City if we can...
I will try to upload as many pictures as possible, but this thing takes forever! This computer has a screaming 30 Megahertz processor in it, and uses State-of-the-Art "serial" connections.... and even with all that it takes me close to 1/2 an hour to upload all the pictures...! Another note-- sorry if the colors are off, I only have a black and white monitor so I am approximating what the colors are by my memory of the Macintosh color wheel - but hey, probably isn't as bad as some of my paintings...
All in all, we are having a really good time. Lynne and I are looking forward to the ham and homemade mayonaise sandwiches Miss Jean is going to make us for lunch tomorrow; complete with pringles, pickled aspragus and congealed salad. I love the South!
July 7th
We left my Grandfather's at 9:30 am. On the way to Baton Rouge we listened to some pretty good radio- most notably 1280 am, an all-blues station out of New Orleans (take note Uncle Bob!). Good tunes, but not enough old stuff... Heard a funk station near Baton Rouge playing such hits as "Your Man is Home Tonight" and "Don't Saddle My Horse if You Can't Ride." Oh yeah, baby!
Dropped by Uncle Bob's old house on St. Joseph in Baton Rouge. The house looks great, and even has a nice garden out front. We went to Poor Boy Lloyd's for a poor boy and said hi to Mary who works there (I met her through Uncle Bob a few years ago). She says hello to Uncle Bob, Inez and Austin!
We drove through Louisana lisening to Clifton Chenier and Buckwheat Zydeco. The heat index was up to 108 degrees!
Finally, at 12:30 am we ended up in Vernon, TX, dazed and confused. It's just as hot here as it was down south...
We will go and have lunch with our Aunt Sybil tomorrow (change of schedule- we didn't go through OKC as we had originally planned) and head north to Colorado Springs to hopefully catch up with our good friend Mitch, and hopefully Kirsten if she's around (and not on top of a 14,000 foot mountain!).
