August 8th, continued..
We left around 10 and drove back to Albuquerque. We made it just in time to see the Makers at the Launch Pad, a bar co-owned by our good friend Eric Kennedy. The Makers were good, but a little more punk than we had seen them last. We were expecting a more garage-y sound out of them but enjoyed the show anyway. We saw our friend Brian again, as well as Alan Deem and CJ (of the Drags). We even bumped into Sara Fruit and her husband Nathan!
Afterwards we went and got our usual Frontier breakfast and watched the teenage meat-market with Brian. Still can't belive what a SCENE it is at the Frontier. Very entertaining just to watch the people go by.
August 9th
This morning our old Reading Group came over and had brunch. MamaVarg made quiche and creamed chipped beef on toast. Mmmmmmm. Pat and Joan McNamara brought some delicious sweetrolls and of couse, their delightful daughters Amy and Laura. Nancy and Jim brought over thier adorable and well-behaved youngsters Chris and Jackson. Brent and Shawn also joined us as well as Greg Hansen.
We had a good 3 or 4 hour brunch just talking and having a good time on the front porch. The boys ran around, played with the cat, and were just as cute as could be! We have truly degenerated to the Eating Group and spent most of the time just catching up with each other. There was little talk of the Reading Group, but there was talk about Greg Pirkl, who is always missed at these occasions (he is in the Navy in Hawaii)! Sorry you couldn't be here, Greg! At one point, Laura was explaining something about her PhD dissertation work (an ethnography of scientists at the labs in Los Alamos). She used a word so big that half of us needed a dictionary, pronto! Ahhh. That is why we love her.
Later in the afternoon, Cheryl came over and hung out with us for a while. The three of us then hooked up with Enrique & Rosemary for dinner at El Patio. We had a sumptious feast (love those chile rellenos!). After dinner we went back to their house and had a good time talking for a while. We started out mixed but then ended up boys in one room and girls in another. Here's the twist, though. The guys were doing the equivalent of swapping recipes (computer stuff) while the women talked politics. Que 90s!
