Photos
from the July,
1990 tour of the Strawberry Zots.
The
Strawberry Zots were a 60's-based pop group from Albuqerque that I did
psychedelic lighting
for. In 1990 they were signed to BMG music after their self-released album "Cars,
Flowers, Telephones" was released, and were sent on a whirlwind tour
of New York and New Jersey to coordinate with CMJ (and a lot of radio play
that they were getting as well). I met up with the Zots in New Jersey (I
was living in Rhode Island for the summer), they all flew out from New
Mexico, and we went on a very merry 2-week mini-tour. It was pretty exciting
and
we had a lot of
laughs.
They continued on for a few years after this, touring with Dread
Zeppelin and recording 2 more albums, eventually changing labels
and having a few strokes
of bad luck with management. I continued
to be a lighting designer until the mid-90s and then moved away from New
Mexico; Mark went back to school; Brad continued to paint; Dave
continued with catering
and working at Tambrian; Daniel still drums in Albquerque (as far as I have
heard); I am not sure where Jill or Emily ended up (something involving Mayan
temples,
the Olmec and the Land of The Winged Serpent); Lawrence had a prolific career
as a flaminco guitarist and studio musician, and tragically died in November
of 2003. This photo series is dedicated to him.
These were great times and the Zots still remain great friends of
mine. Enjoy the photos.
